Good Afternoon Edison Families,

I hope you and your family are well as we enter the final days of January! Although the weather has been mild at times, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. We go outside for recess if the temperature (with wind chill) is at or above 20 degrees. If you need help with winter clothing, please contact the main office for assistance.

The PTO Popcorn Day last Friday raised over $500 dollars! Thank you for sending in $1.00 with your student to participate. Our next Popcorn Day will be Friday, February 9th!

The Mobile Dentist will be at Edison the week. Forms were sent home, but you can also sign up on line at www.myschooldentist.com

Just a reminder carried over from the last parent update: The City of Westland has installed additional "No Parking" signs by the K-2 playground (between Edison and the Ice Arena). The Westland Police have started asking parents to move their cars at dismissal. Please be aware of this change and use the parking at Jaycee Park or the Ice Arena as alternates. We appreciate you avoiding the bus lane as well so we have a smooth dismissal!

Have a great week,

Bennett Tyler

Update:  Good Afternoon Edison Families,

I hope you had a great weekend and you are excited for a fun week! We have a Scholastic Book Fair which is open all week and during Trunk or Treat. Our 4th Grade students have a music concert on Thursday. Following the concert, we have the Edison Trunk or Treat! These events are always lots of fun and well attended by our community.

Please remember that all costumes must be school appropriate (no blood, weapons, etc). When in doubt, it's probably not the best costume or prop for school!

We have lots of candy and appreciate all of the donations! If you can send in another bag or two, we will still take it up to Wednesday of this week. We expect over 300 students and 30 Trunk or Treat locations, so the candy goes quickly! The Trunk or Treat will start at 6:30pm on Thursday. If you arrive early, the line will start at the door/sidewalk for the new gym!

Lastly, NWEA Student Progress Reports are available in the ParentConnection

Have a great week,

Bennett Tyler

Have a great Holiday Weekend! - Good Afternoon Edison Families,

Thank you so much for an excellent first week of school! It was exciting to see all of the students back in the building and ready for the new school year! There is NO SCHOOL on 9-1 or 9-4 due to Labor Day. Students return on Tuesday, September 5th which is a full day of school.

Just a reminder, please follow the student arrival plan shown below. DO NOT park in the drop off line as it slows down traffic flow leaving the parking lot! Also, parents will be asked to say goodbye at the front door, now that we have completed the first week of school. If you need to enter the building for any reason, all parents, grandparents, visitors, etc. will need to "buzz" in and use our secure office entry. Students should be able to find their classroom and we have several adults stationed in each hallway to make sure students get to their room!

Good Evening Edison Families,

It was great to see you at our Open House!  As we prepare for our first (half day) of school tomorrow, here are a few reminders for arrival and dismissal.

Tuesday, August 29th is a half day.  The school day is from 9:00-12:20pm.

Arrival

Student arrival takes place between 9:00-9:10am, the front doors are unlocked at 9:00am!

Walkers-If your child walks to school, please remind them to cross at the corner by the stop sign so our crossing guards can get them across the street safely.  From there, students will enter the main doors and head to their classroom!

Bus-Students who arrive by bus will be walked into the building by an adult.  Once inside, students will head to their classroom!

Drop off-Parents may utilize the drop off line in front of the school.  There is NO PARKING in the drop off line!  Parents should enter the parking lot and stay to the right (cones will direct traffic).  Students should exit the passenger side of the vehicle and walk on the sidewalk to the front door.  If you would like to walk your child to the front door, please park in a marked parking spot and walk with your child to the door.  Please do not exit your car in the drop off line as it holds up other parents.  It is helpful if students have their backpack and things ready before it's time to get out!

Parents are not allowed to enter the building during student arrival, unless they check in at the office.  Please plan to say goodbye at the front door!  If you are worried about your student getting to his/her classroom, we will let you walk them to the classroom door this week.  After Labor Day, we will ask you to send them into the building on their own.  We hope this helps ease your child into the school if they are worried about walking in alone.

Dismissal

Dismissal begins at 3:45pm (12:05 on a half day).  If there is a change in your child's dismissal location, please contact the office before 3:00pm (11:00 on a half day) so we can alert the student and teacher!  We will not allow early dismissals after 2:30pm on a full day of school unless it is an emergency situation.

Students who ride the bus home will be called down to the cafeteria.  They will be walked to their bus by an adult and each bus takes attendance to make sure each student is on the right bus!  Plan on buses running a little late the first couple of weeks while students get into the routine!

Students who are picked up by a parent will be dismissed from their classroom door (or another location shared by the teacher).  Teachers have shared dismissal information on Class Dojo.

Please make sure to have your ID with you, especially before teachers learn each student's family and dismissal plans.

We are looking forward to a great first (half) day!  See you in the morning!
